Cherokee Veterans Park
Cherokee Veterans Park, one of the largest parks in Cherokee County, spans 149 acres and is home to the L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens, Jr. Recreation Center, which opened on February 3, 2023. This state-of-the-art, 32,623 sq. ft. facility features two full-size basketball courts, a fitness zone with cardio equipment, a dance studio, multiple classrooms, and administrative offices. The recreation center also offers Victory Hall, a spacious banquet room with seating for 200 guests, a catering kitchen, and a veranda overlooking the park—perfect for special events. Facility rentals are available for pavilions, birthday parties, the rock-climbing zone, classrooms, gym space, and more.
Beyond the recreation center, Cherokee Veterans Park provides a wide range of outdoor amenities for the community. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy an artificial turf athletic field, two natural grass fields, and tennis and pickleball courts, which can be reserved through the Cherokee Tennis Center. The park also features a playground, skate park, fishing pond (catch and release), master garden, and a large open meadow. For those who enjoy walking and hiking, there are both paved walking paths and the Silver Star Trail. Additional amenities include concessions and restrooms, with future plans for a baseball/softball complex, additional tennis and pickleball courts, and a large community pavilion pending funding. Whether you’re looking for recreation, relaxation, or a place to gather, Cherokee Veterans Park and The Buzz Recreation Center offer something for everyone.
