Outdoor Recreation – A Natural Connection

Outdoor recreation is deeply tied to the natural world, making its home within the Division of Natural Resources. Whether exploring a remote wilderness, paddling along a scenic river, or enjoying a walk in a neighborhood park, these experiences depend on the beauty and resilience of our natural spaces. Outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, biking, rock climbing, and conservation volunteering not only provide adventure but also strengthen our connection to the environment.

Nearly 50% of Americans participate in at least one outdoor activity each year, reaping the benefits of improved physical and mental well-being. Engaging with nature fosters a sense of stewardship, ensuring our public lands remain protected for future generations. Outdoor recreation also plays a significant role in the economy, supporting local businesses and generating billions nationwide.

Most importantly, spending time outdoors enhances overall quality of life—promoting happiness, health, and a deep appreciation for the world around us. Why wait? Step outside and explore all that Cherokee County has to offer!
