About Cherokee Swim Club

Cherokee Swim Club is a year-round competitive swim program dedicated to helping swimmers of all ages and abilities grow in confidence, skill, and teamwork. Our program focuses on developing strong fundamentals, fostering a positive team environment, and supporting each swimmer as they work toward their personal goals.

All new swimmers begin with a coach-led assessment to ensure proper group placement. Our experienced coaching staff works closely with families and athletes to encourage progress, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of swimming. Whether your swimmer is new to the sport or preparing for high-level competition, Cherokee Swim Club offers a supportive and challenging environment to help them succeed. Swimmers aged 5 to 18 are eligible. New swimmers must demonstrate proficiency in freestyle and backstroke at a tryout, unless they are returning Pelicans.

Cherokee Swim Club welcomes swimmers of all levels who are ready to grow, train, and compete in a supportive team environment. All new swimmers begin with a coach-led assessment to ensure they are placed in the practice group that best fits their skills and goals.

What to Expect at Your Assessment

During the assessment, you and your swimmer will meet with one of our coaches to:

    • Discuss your goals for joining the team

    • Learn about our practice groups and training pathways

    • Complete an in-water evaluation to determine the best group placement

This process helps us ensure that each swimmer begins in the group that will support their progress and confidence.

Please follow team emails and Facebook closely for changes and announcements.

Assessments (Try-Outs)

Assessments (Try-Outs)

Assessments are done to ensure that the swimmer is placed in the proper group based on the visual assessment of the coach. Group placements are based on the following.

  1. Competitive Aspirations
  2. Age
  3. Training Ability
  4. Commitment Level

Proper group placement is key to the success of each group and swimmer. We must first determine the swimmers’ competitive aspirations so that we can match up those swimmers. Next, we must consider the age of the swimmer as they will develop as swimmers differently. The individual swimmers training ability must be considered to that a proper lane assignment can be given during practice with like swimmers. As always in some groups the swimmer’s commitment level needs to be evaluated so that the swimmer can get the training desired to be successful.
