The Silver Roamers is a membership group for active adults, age 50 and up, that was established by Cherokee County Recreation and Parks agency over 15 years ago and now operates under the umbrella of Cherokee County Senior Services.   Membership is $30 per calendar year (JAN—DEC) but you may participate in our activities without being a member. The Silver Roamers meet as a group monthly to discuss upcoming events, participate in early registration and visit with each other. We often have speakers at our meetings and have recently started offering lunch as well.  Our monthly meetings, at this time, are being held at The Cherokee Co Conference Center/The Bluffs at 1130 Bluffs Parkway in Canton.  Get in touch for details or to attend.

Our monthly calendar typically includes 2 to 3 events per month and occasional overnight trips as well. Our activities range from local museums and attractions to sporting events, current happenings that are in the area for a limited time, movies at a local theatre and a monthly lunch bunch at various restaurants. It’s a great way to socialize, meet new people, and see all that our beautiful state has to offer.  To join, simply come by the Cherokee County Senior Services at 1001 Univeter Road in Canton, The WREC Woodstock Recreation Center at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock or register online.

What is the history of the Silver Roamers?
The Silver Roamers is a membership club for active adults, age 50 and up, that was established by Cherokee Recreation and Parks staff over 15 years ago. Since that time, we have visited many great places, had lots of fun and made many friendships along the way. The Silver Roamers are now under the umbrella of Cherokee County Senior Services and are continuing the great tradition that was started by Cherokee Recreation and Parks. Our monthly meeting begins at 11, is over by 1 and is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month. The Bluffs (Cherokee Conference Center) is our location for the monthly meeting. Besides the 2-3 day trips monthly, we have occasional overnight trips and a couple of Mystery trips. The Silver Roamers are a great way to socialize, meet new people, and see many interesting places and experiences.

What are the benefits of my annual $30 membership fee?
A monthly newsletter is emailed to you updating you on the latest Silver Roamers news. Our monthly meeting offers a catered lunch each month and is free to most members. Silver Roamer members are also able to participate in a free weekly water exercise class at the Cherokee Aquatic center.

What if I have to cancel for a trip I’ve signed up for?
We know things come up unexpectedly and you may have to cancel. If you cancel prior to a day trip you may be able to receive a full 100% credit if money has not been paid out on that trip. If tickets are purchased for an event in advance such a Braves game or theatre ticket, refunds are not available unless someone else is able to use the ticket. Refunds are usually in the form of an account credit that you may use for any future activity or a credit card refund if a card was used for your registration. If you prefer a refund, a $5 automatic, administrative fee is deducted. This applies for day trips only; overnight trips vary.

How do the Silver Roamers travel?
We pick up at the indicated times at the Boys and Girls Club on Univeter Rd in Canton or the Senior Center also on Univeter Rd. We travel in Senior Services vehicles which consist of a 28-passenger bus, and a 14-passenger mini bus. For events that are close by, many members drive and meet us there.

What if there is inclement weather?
All trips are subject to cancelation due to inclement weather. Any cancelation will be announced as soon as possible. If an inclement weather warning is issued for Cherokee County, the trip is automatically canceled. If the trip cannot be rescheduled, we will issue a full credit to your account. If you choose not to travel due to your own concerns, credits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.
